Age Concern Canterbury is pleased to be able to offer:
When these courses were introduced in May 2008 Age Concern stated how they believed that it was important that older people felt confident in their homes and could live without fear of crime.
It is pleasing to read from evaluations of the courses held in 2008 and 2009 that nearly all participants felt more confident having completed the course.
In collaboration with our partners NZ Police, NZ Fire Service, Civil Defence and Neighbourhood Support Canterbury we hope that this course will provide you with information to access support, feel confident at home and help promote safe and secure communities.
A recent Fire Service Commission report showed that older people are over represented in fire fatalities in this country. On completion of this course Age Concern Canterbury will provide a special tamper free smoke alarm that will be installed by the NZ Fire Service and have a life of ten years.
Age Concern Canterbury will continue to advocate for safe communities where older people are respected and can actively participate in society.
The course is free and runs from 9.30am - 3.00pm with morning tea and lunch provided free of charge. For details of dates and times of courses in 2010 please ring Ph3660903.
The course aims to ensure that mature drivers (55+) maintain their confidence driving by highlighting changing traffic situations, identifying hazards, the impact of the ageing process and the importance of planning trips. It's a great opportunity to increase your knowledge of recent changes to road safety legislation and to ask questions about everyday driving situations.
The course also provides valuable insight in to life without a licence for those who find they are no longer able to drive.
The course is free and runs from 10.00am - 2.30pm with lunch provided free of charge. For details of dates and times of courses in 2010 please ring Ph3660903.
